You can also choose between Full Operation Mode for more control, or a stripped-down Simple Mode with just the basics.

Direct Source Selection

Switch to another source simply by touching a desired source icon. You can access another targeted source instantly without defaulting back to the menu display.

Make It Your Own

Various customization and digital photo frame functions also make it easy to set up your receiver to your aesthetic preferences. Select among five (Blue/Red/Amber/Green/Violet) colors for the display and 112 different colors to match receiver illumination to the dash. With Dual Decode, the receiver can display JPEG images while it plays music from your USB device or SD memory card. With one touch of the Capture button, you can save a favorite JPEG image as a wallpaper to the receiver. You can customize controls too, creating shortcuts to access frequently used features in the menu display.

Connectivity and Versatility

Versatile Media Playback

Play back your favorite CDs and DVDs, along with various digital files: MP3/WMA/AAC audio, DivX/DVD/VCD video, and JPEG images.

USB Port/SD Card Slot

Connect a USB thumb drive loaded with files, and enjoy playback of files from your digital library. Or do the same with an SD Card, for an even more portable option.

iPod Direct Control

Connect your iPod/iPhone and enjoy music directly from your device, with complete control of unit functions right from the receiver. If you'd prefer, switch over to "application mode" to control from the iPod/iPhone itself.

Pandora Integration

Fans of the Internet music service Pandora, rejoice! The AVH-P4300DVD, thanks to Pioneer's new Pandora Ready feature, can give you direct control of Pandora through your iPhone. Launch Pandora on your connected iPhone, and you'll be able to experience Pandora through your receiver, complete with bookmarking and thumbs up/down buttons.

Audio/Video Performance

Dual-Zone Audio/Video

This receiver allows rear seat passengers to enjoy DVD or CD content via additional rear screens and headphones, even while the front passenger and driver operate navigation or listen to audio from other sources simultaneously.

Auto EQ

It's difficult to reproduce music well in a car, because speaker positioning is constrained by interior space and other conditions. These limitations can lead to sound phase distortion, as well as speaker sound reflection against glass and absorption by dashboard and seats. Pioneer's unique Auto EQ feature tailors specific musical characteristics according to your taste, and uses a microphone (the optional CD-M20) to monitor and analyze acoustics, then automatically fine-tunes all frequency bandwidths using front and rear speaker digital parametric equalization. It's similar to the setup feature on many home theaters, and will let you dial things in just right for your vehicle.

Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD Sound Center Control
Sound Center Control optimizes the soundstage for different spots in the vehicle cabin.
Pioneer Advanced Sound Retriever
Above--sound quality deterioration from compressed audio files. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever restores detail, warmth, and clarity.
Sonic Center Control

More audio obsessiveness from Pioneer--unless a listener is perfectly centered in a car cabin, sound heard from some speakers will lag compared to the sound heard from other speakers. This result in unfocused soundstage and instable frequency characteristics. Sonic Center Control remedies this by adjusting frequency phase and acoustic characteristics by up to 15 steps, providing a clearer, focused soundstage.

Advanced Sound Retreiver

Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity that the artist originally wanted you to hear from compressed MP3, WMA and AAC files stored on disc, USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology restores data (especially high-frequency data) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process.

Eight-Band EQ

With Pioneer's eight-band graphic equalizer, you can customize the equalization levels to best match the acoustics of your car.

MOSFET Amplification

The AVH-P4300DVD cranks out 4 channels of 50 Watts with efficient MOSFET amplification, and offers three 4V RCA preamp outputs for growing your system.

Bluetooth Ready

Add Pioneer's CD-BTB200 Bluetooth adapter to allow for safe, simple, hands-free calling and receiving with most Bluetooth wireless-enabled cell phones. Just touch the cell phone icon in the receiver display for direct access to the Bluetooth display. Special symbols will light up when a Bluetooth connection is established, and pairing is is easy and automatic. 10-key dialing via touchscreen is also now possible on Pioneer receivers.

Room to Grow

The AVH-P4300DVD gives you a great featureset to begin with, but it's ready to expand to suit your needs. You can add Bluetooth as mentioned above, along with GPS navigation, satellite radio, HD radio, and a rear-view camera in a snap. Start out big, go bigger.

Customer Review :

Best unit on the market! : Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD 7" In-Dash Double-DIN DVD AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Pandora

I bought this head unit for my 2003 Yukon XL Denali after the stock navigation unit stopped working. I wanted to keep the factory speakers, amps, subwoofer and steering wheel controls but have a unit with a big screen, that came with good features but allowed plenty of room for expansion, and was priced right. Let me tell you, this is the unit if you're in doubt!
Pros:
- Screen is gorgeous and face is low profile- no ugly buttons, knobs slots or ports
- Sound quality is MUCH improved (even with factory Bose)
- Menu functionality and usability is super intuitive (to set the clock you touch the clock! what a concept!)
- Allows WAY more upgrade capability than I will ever use
- Allows turn by turn directions from my iPhone (using MotionX GPS only so far, but it's only like $5)

Cons:
- Remote ONLY does DVD controls, plus basic volume and skip. No menu usability for any other source. Come on Pioneer.
- Parking brake wire on install is ridiculous. See below for my workaround.
- Doesn't come with ipod cord and regular USB ipod/iphone cord works only for audio, not video
- Photo interface is clunky and resolution is tough to get right
- Front of unit (especially the "chin") sticks out a smidge farther than I woud like

As you can see my cons are really nitpicky. Except the remote, I think that is a total fail on Pioneer's part, and I really hope I'm missing something. I think there is an additional remote you can purchase (more money) that does it, but I don't know why they even included this thing. Of course the unit is 18 inches from my face so touching the screen or the steering wheel is not difficult, but like I said, why even include it? I would rather they spent a few extra $$ and gave me an included ipod/iphone cord instead of a useless (for music) remote. On that note, a regular ipod USB to dock cable will play audio JUST FINE. You can save the $15 and leave your 3.5mm jack open. If you want video or navigation from the iphone you'll need the [[ASIN:B001QJ43RK Pioneer CD-IU200V Usb Interface Cable For Ipod/Iphone(Tm)]]. This cord does use both the USB on the back AND the 3.5mm so you lose the option to connect non-ipod music players.

The installation was a snap for me, but I've done this before. Do be careful setting the unit down while fiddling with wires as the screen will surely scratch or break. A helper to hold your expensive toy might not be out of the question. I used a [[ASIN:B000980HC4 Axxess GMOS-04 Class II OnStar Interface for Amplified Systems]] and a [[ASIN:B0039H2W66 Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black)]] to connect and a [[ASIN:B0021K4ISC Metra 95-2009 Double DIN Installation Multi-Kit for Select 1995-2008 GM/Honda/Isuzu/Suzuki Vehicles]] to mount the unit in the dash. I also needed an antenna adapter, plus I added a backup cam and a wireless transmitter/receiver kit for that.

The one snag I had was that routing the parking brake wire in my truck was a bear. And even after I got it there I couldn't access the parking brake sensor. On top of that I thought setting, releasing and resetting my parking brake so I could adjust screen brightness (yes, I'm serious) was a bit over the top. So I decided to simplify the situation and cut the wire, routed it through a SPST non-lighted black switch and connected that to ground. I mounted the switch in a blank panel on my dash; you'd never know it didn't come stock like that. Now if I need to use a function with video I just flip the switch on and off and the unit is happy. It needs to see ground, but only after the unit powers on, so running the wire to a ground without the switch won't work. You could get fancy with relays and the remote wire- I wanted a simple and quick fix. Keep in mind, this is NOT posted here so you can watch movies while driving! Not only is that really dumb and dangerous, it's very illegal. Use this knowledge to make your user experience with this head unit more like it was intended without having to wear out your parking brake.

User interface on this unit is awesome. I almost bought a cheaper Jensen unit with Nav and based on all the "clunky" comments about its interface I'm really glad I didn't. This thing is really intuitive and most things are one or two touches away. Even the instructions are decent, a rarity for electronics anymore. The screen brightness when my truck auto-dims at twilight is too low, but then again it's too bright in the dark dark, and it's the same setting. Since twilight is temporary and the dark lasts longer I have the night dimmer setting as low as it will go and I just deal with it for a few minutes in the afternoon. On that note, there are TWO settings stored for dimmer and a few others- if the little moon icon is next to it the unit is IN its dark setting and that's what you're adjusting.

I was a little bummed this unit didn't have onboard Bluetooth, especially with the $150 price tag for the add on kit. However, I'm perfectly happy without it and my reasoning is such. I have a bluetooth earpiece already that I like and has zero road noise. A lot of the built ins have noise complaints, plus it would make my earpiece useless. Second, my phone is going to die quick if I use it to stream Pandora or navigate, so I'll want it charging anyway. The auto-connect, auto-stream functionality of Bluetooth while neat would likely leave me with a dead battery. So if I have to plug it in ANYWAY, I don't need bluetooth to stream. OBTW, A2DP streaming often crushes your sound quality so you're way better off wired in this case.

I was also a little bummed I wasn't getting navigation onboard, same argument- $200 add on. Well for $5 or whatever MotionX charges you get turn by turn, maps, and search functionality. Plus since it's pulling from the internet there is no need for update discs which cost big bucks over the years. This was the best feature for the money and it wasn't even advertised on the website!!! Obviously you might lose connectivity if you're driving in the boonies, however I used this for hours while driving in the Alabama Hills and though cell service was in and out, once a map loaded it stayed (holds up to 2Gb!) and the GPS signal NEVER left. So it's not perfect but again, for the price it's a 99% solution.

I'm a photo enthusiast so I was excited about the photo slideshow option, as well as being able to set my own background images. It turns out these functions are quite limited. First, my iphone is my 80% source of music, and the radio is the other 20%. I don't have XM nor have I loaded a DVD-R with songs (but I could). So I was disappointed when I decided to use the SD card slot to load some photos and keep them there. It turns out while using the ipod/iphone connection with the [[ASIN:B001QJ43RK Pioneer CD-IU200V Usb Interface Cable For Ipod/Iphone(Tm)]] it doesn't allow you to access the SD card for pictures. Bummer. But once I got to them I found that normal photos get quite cut off by the screen, or they show up with the black bars around them to fit the screen, which coupled with the relatively low resolution (compared to monitors) they look kinda crummy. So I saved a few at the native resolution of the display and reloaded them. In the photo view mode they looked great. So I saved (captured?) one (and you can only save ONE) and set it as the background. Well the darn unit went ahead and compressed the top edges and bottom edges again for no reason, so it's smushed on the screen once again. I lost patience with it after that.

This leads nicely into the fact that there's basically ZERO onboard memory. Again, come on Pioneer, flash memory is in everything these days, you could get us a few Mb to save a few photos so you don't always need media inserted, and retain user settings with the battery disconnected.

One note for new iTunes Match users, the iPod function of the stereo will only see what songs are STORED on your phone. It's just accessing the files. So if you delete ALL your songs and plan to stream, the stereo will come back with nothing. However, in App Mode you can use any ipod/iphone app for audio you like. So you just touch one button on the screen, then run your ipod by hand, old school style. Incidentally, if you're still reading, this is how you would get the nav from MotionX to show up. Start the app up and your turn by turn and map functions will display on the screen. And you can continue to play music from the phone in the background and Motionx will just dim the volume when Betty needs to talk to you. Pretty sweet! Also, there is a built in mode for Pandora so you can actually see the artist, album, etc on the screen. And the thumbs up/down and bookmark all work as well. You just have to start the app on the phone manually before it will play.

Overall I am ecstatic with this unit and the price I paid on Amazon! I would not only recommend this to a friend, I would discourage him or her from buying anything else!
